When Sachin Tendulkar decided to make his presence felt in the ODI's, he returned against a strong South African bowling attack at home. It was perfect scenario for him to score the first-ever double century in ODI cricket. Gwalior was the venue where Sachin decided to score the double against an attack consisting of Dale Steyn, Wayne Parnell, Jacques Kallis among others.
India launched their second 400 score against a test-playing nation after Sri Lanka few months ago. With the T20 influence in full-swing, it was no wonder for teams to score 350-400 runs in the ODI scenario but the first 200 was scored by one who had practically all the batting records in the format but still played his cricket mostly in traditional way.
The match itself was one-sided with Sachin leading the way, accompanied by Dinesh Karthik, Yusuf Pathan and MS Dhoni. Even AB De Viliers could not match the heroics of Sachin in response. Thanks to repeated strikes by Sreesanth, Nehra, Ravinder Jadeja and Yusuf Pathan, the innings folded quickly.
Sachin, through this innings, showed that he was not a spent force at all. In fact, his innings rejuvenated him at the right time with less than a year to go for 2011 World Cup. Getting his mettle back, Tendulkar was focused to do his best at the last World Cup he would play for his country.
