The third Asia Cup was held in Bangladesh in 1988. India had a new-look side led by Dilip Vengsarkar. There were newcomers in Indian team, compared to the 1987 World Cup - Arshad Ayub, Sanjeev Sharma, Ajay Sharma, Narender Hirwani. Siddhu had a chance to continue his domination over the opposing bowlers - true to his form, he was the Man of Series as well as Man of Match in the final over Sri Lanka.

India lost the preliminary match against Sri Lanka but managed to overpower them in the finals after defeating Pakistan and Bangladesh in the league matches. Siddhu with contributions from Krish Srikkanth and captain Dilip Vengsarkar helped the Indian batting overcome the failures from the other newcomers. Arshad Ayub (Manager of the current touring team to Australia 2014-15) took a fifer in one of the matches to claim the position of the leading off-spinner.

In the final, the Indian fielding was top-class - effecting four run-outs to stem the Lankans run-rate. From the strength of 97-2, the Lankans crashed to 176 all out without utilizing six of its allocated overs. Srikkanth hastened the end with his part-time off-breaks, taking three rare wickets. In the chase, Srikkanth started well but fell quickly. Siddhu and Vengsarkar scored fifties each to take India to an easy win - their second Asia Cup win.
