Win #4 - 1984 Asia Cup win

Sunil Gavaskar was back as the Indian ODI captain and he led the team to Sharjah for the first-ever Asia Cup. The format was simple - each team played the other twice and whoever won the most matches was the winner. India defeated Sri Lanka and Pakistan easily to win the Asia Cup.

The Indian team missed Kapil Dev and Krish Srikanth from its lineup - the starting eleven had a  new look - Ghulam Parkar and Surinder Khanna opened the innings while Chetan Sharma and Manoj Prabhakar opened the bowling. This was a big difference from the team that won the 1983 World Cup.

The first match was a mismatch where the Sri Lankan team was dismissed for 96 by the Indian attack with Madan Lal and Chetan Sharma leading the way. Surinder Khanna with an unbeaten fifty helped the Indian team scale down the target in the 22nd over. The second match was slightly better in terms of a battle but it was the same effect (Surinder Khanna once again scoring a fifty in this match).

Surinder Khanna would fade away after this tournament but this was his moment of glory in Indian cricket.
