Partnering Manoj Prabhakar in the Singer Cup, Sachin Tendulkar notched up his first century against his favorite foe, Australia. Within six months since he started opening the batting, Sachin scored his century in 78 innings.
Tendulkar continued his attacking game in this match too, scoring boundaries and sixes to run the attack ragged. Sachin scored his fifty in 43 balls but reduced the scoring to ensure that the team score would be challenging for the Aussies. Sachin stuck his adversary Shane Warne for two sixes in an over to win a psychological battle. The dismissal of Sachin meant that the Indian innings stuttered to the finish-line. But, India had enough runs on the board to defend the target. Thanks to Manoj Prabhakar's bowling (and fielding/catching), India won the match by 31 runs to qualify for the final.

India would go on and win this four-nation tournament, defeating Sri Lanka in the final but the tournament would be well-known for this century from the Little Master in the league game.
